Hunting Species
La Rivera offers various native and exotic species, providing various hunting experiences and options. Native wildlife includes whitetail deer, Rio Grande gobblers, morning and ring-neck doves, and bobwhite quail.
The Ranch has an Axis herd and has recently introduced Black Buck. Feral hogs are hunted year-round.
The Ranch has a fully stocked caliche bottom stock tank for catch-and-release fishing.
We are proud of our wildlife. Our care and concern are visible in the different species' health, diversity, and population. The Pena Family owners have enjoyed South Texas for five (5) generations, condensing their knowledge into the unique and easily accessible format known as the "La Rivera Experience Resort."

DEER HUNTS
All deer hunts at La Rivera Ranch occur out of blinds and are only available to overnight guests. Our deer hunts run from October to February under the Managed Lands Deer Program (MLDP), subject to the Texas Parks & Wildlife North Zone schedule.
We require a $1,500 deposit to reserve your hunt at L.R. Resorts. We accept credit cards, Zelle, or Venmo. Contact us for more details.
WHITE TAIL DEER
La Rivera Ranch has a Managed Lands Deer Program (MLD permit), which extends the regular hunting season. You can find other places to hunt, but none better than La Rivera with its native Texas whitetail. Our wildlife biologist must report herd and harvest data to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
Together, we work hand in hand with the State of Texas to provide the best possible management of our native deer. We care about our animals. They are why we are here.
After your hunting session, please relax and enjoy our luxurious lodge and accommodations. Our first-class accommodation and staff are ready to provide the best experience ever.
Our Texas whitetail Deer hunting packages include the following:

An independent third party conducts all whitetail scoring.
It is against the law to shoot a gun across a property line or on a public road, stalk remotely, use nets, or pursue deer with canines.

We require all hunters to have a current Texas hunting license. Underage hunters must have completed the required hunter safety course.
TURKEY
At La Rivera Ranch, our proximity to the Frio River makes us a favorite turkey habitat. Turkey hunts are an enjoyable and fantastic family activity.
As a native bird, Texas prescribes a hunting season for spring turkey from mid-March until the first weekend of May.
Turkeys are unpredictable, so we do not guarantee a bird. We can share we have many happy return customers.
At La Rivera Experience resort, at least a two-night stay is required, and lodging and dining packages must be bought separately from hunt activities.

AXIS DEER
Native Home: India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka
With our beautiful setting and great accommodations, La Rivera Ranch allows you to hunt exotic animals like Axis deer. We have an excellent herd of Axis Deer that have become the most sought-after exotic deer to hunt in Texas.
La Rivera Ranch is a premier destination for Axis Deer hunts. Few hunting experiences are as exciting and thrilling as drawing down on a trophy Axis buck.
Unlike most deer species, rutting axis bucks can be found any time of the year, which makes it possible to hunt hard-horned and velvet-horned Axis bucks year-round. Axis deer can also be hunted day or night.

BOBWHITE QUAIL (Coming Soon!!!)
Native Home: United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
They are ground-dwelling birds and prefer to walk or run, even if they can have powerful, short bursts of flight. Northern Bobwhites typically feed by gleaning near the ground and eating a plant-based diet, including fruit, seeds, and leaves. Its unique whistled call is a familiar sound during spring in farmlands and brushy pastures at La Rivera ranch. Enjoy our facilities while walking around our fields to hunt these beautiful birds.
We offer day hunts, including a guide for 4 hours, lunch, and soft drinks for $350 per person up to 20 quail. (A minimum of 4 hunters’ groups to accommodate service is required.)

BLACK BUCK
Native Home: India and Pakistan
This non-native variety of deer prefers to graze in large pasture areas of our Ranch. Blackbucks are another La Rivera Ranch species that breed year-round—making this species available to hunt in any season. This species of Antelope has a beautiful, elegant, and slender body, making it a favorite hunter’s choice for its gorgeous looks.
We offer fantastic Trophy Black Buck Antelope hunts; all our Blackbuck will be of trophy quality, and horns will exceed 18 inches straight line measurements.
You may hunt our Blackbuck Antelope at La Rivera Ranch from one of numerous hunting blinds or safari style out of a vehicle.
The Ranch features numerous food plots and large pasture areas to give you the best opportunity to harvest your trophy.
La Rivera Hunting Ranch offers trophy Blackbuck hunts to suit any age and skill level, from the novice to the experienced hunter. These Antelope can be hunted year-round.

DOVE
Enjoy our wonderful setting with more private and fewer dove hunters at La Rivera Ranch. The experience will bring you back every season to enjoy time with family and friends. Dove hunting varies from year to year, depending on the weather. We will only schedule hunts when a good flock of birds is available.
Dove season in Texas usually starts around the 3rd week of September.
